Sacred Depths

The small town of Velis once held a spring noted for its medical benefits. Some even claim it had the power to break dire curses and cure terminal illnesses. Was this true? No one truly knows anymore. Due to a Nightmarish creature that spat vile poison and corrupted nature wherever it treads. Many believed this unnatural plague monster was a vile creation of Behelest. Meant to crush the small place thought sacred to Pheriss. In order to weaken the Archaic enough to absorb it. The centuries since have proven it was no more than a false claim to increase the towns fame in a desperate time. The legendary pools had dried up under mysterious circumstances. Over time the town's residents died off or fled. Leaving a ruin as nature claimed the buildings once more.
However, Angus Ogille priest of the lord of waters knew one thing. Every myth had a grain of truth if you were willing to look beneath the surface. Supposedly, a fist sized sea green stone was once inset in a mural that covered the source of the mystical springs. A greedy traveler stole the magic stone hoping to sell it for profit. Though instead they died mysteriously in an unknown place. After some investigation Angus found himself in Verdant Row. He had heard a strange natural cave was recently discovered beneath it. Exploration had resulted in many severely injured or dead glory seekers. It was ruled too dangerous for continued searching. A strange, unmarked headstone rested beneath a carved depiction of a weeping hooded figure. A strange stone was held between their long fingers. This landmark was the last safe place before the real dangers beyond claimed its victims.
In a fit of uncommon curiosity, the druid felt an urge he did not know how to pursue. He was no dungeon delver and recognized his weaknesses. The strange town of ghost had a reputation for maze like streets that constantly changed. Yet Angus knew if he wished hard enough in such a place. He could find where he needed to be. So, he found himself in a strangely slow tavern for the time of day. The individual behind the counter eyed him suspiciously as he entered. After approaching the bar, he took an empty stool. Then placed a pair of silver pieces on the counter. Angus smiled honestly and addressed the bartender. "Excuse me could you tell me where I might find a skilled treasure hunter for hire?"
